Emergency Preparedness and Planning

Blood or Body Fluid SpillBiohazard symbol

  1. Wear gloves and other appropriate personal protective equipment.
    DO NOT PICK UP BROKEN GLASS WITH YOUR HANDS!
  2. Blot blood with an absorbent material.
  3. Discard blood and spill kit in a plastic biohazard bag.
  4. Clean spill area with a 10% bleach solution or another approved disinfectant.
  5. If necessary, isolate area and contact Housekeeping by calling the Plant Operations EMS phone number (322-2621).
  6. If students are exposed, instruct them to go to the Student Health Center (322-2427), or after regular office hours, to the Emergency Department.
  7. If staff or faculty are exposed, instruct them to go to the Occupational Health Clinic (936-0955), or after regular office hours, to the Emergency Department.  Employees should complete a First Report of Injury report.
