Fire Safety for Students

In addition to smoke and heat detectors, all Vanderbilt Residence Halls and Greek Houses are fully protected by automatic sprinkler systems.  However, even with all of these fire safety systems in place, you need to do your part to make our campus safe.  The Fire Safety Fact Sheets are a good place to start learning about fire prevention and what to do if you are ever involved in an actual fire.

For students living on campus, the Vanderbilt University Student Handbook provides additional information related to fire safety.  Look for "Safety and Fire Prevention" in the General Residence Life Policies section.

Smoke Free Campus

no smoking symbol Smoking is prohibited inside all buildings on campus, including residence halls and Greek houses.  Smoking is also prohibited outside on the Vanderbilt campus, with the exception of designated smoking locations.  Additional smoking areas have been designated for campus residents.

Information about smoking cessation is available from the Student Health Center.

Fire Drills

Starting in September, the Vanderbilt University Police Department and the Office of Housing and Residential Education will conduct fire drills for all campus residential areas.
